Did he do that?
Jaleel White—the actor best known for playing the character Steve Urkel in “Family Matters”—has announced he’s getting into the cannabis business.
Forbes reports how White has partnered with 710 Labs—a California-based company which specializes in the green stuff— to create his own line of purple cannabis deemed ItsPurpl which features twists on a strain called, you guessed it, Purple Urkel.
“This thing that always stood out to me was there was no clear brand leader for fire purple weed,” White told the publication. “It made no sense to me, that no company of significance had claimed this lane, so why not me?”
Indeed, it would appear that White has fully thrown himself into a newfound cannabis entrepreneurship. The actor is scheduled to appear during a virtual 4/20 celebration called “Even Higher Together” in which Snoop Dogg—the unofficial King of Cannabis—will release his latest album, “From the Streets 2 tha Suites.”
White’s foray into cannabis is a stark contrast to his earlier career. “Family Matters” was a wholesome nineties sitcom which followed the story of cop Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson) and his family.
White as Urkel was actually supposed to be a one-time appearance. However, the charming geek ended up being the show’s most popular (and, today, its most recognizable) character.
On a side note, Urkel also helped to create one of the greatest crossovers in television history: One episode of another explosively popular nineties hit, “Full House,” featured Urkel perplexing the Tanner family and absolutely stealing the show.
The ItsPurpl strain will launch on 710 Labs in California on, of course, April 20th.
