Cops uncover a sophisticated cannabis lab masquerading as a backyard pool business in Queensland’s tourist haven

Police have uncovered a large and sophisticated hydroponic cannabis operation and released dramatic footage of the moment they found the huge haul.

An estimated 27 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from 100 plants hidden inside four shipping containers at an industrial complex in Leo Valley Drive in Noosa, Queensland.

Four people were arrested in associated raids, including a 38-year-old Cooroy man at the Leo Valley Drive premises.

He was charged with drug trafficking, producing dangerous drugs, and possession.

Dried cannabis was also found in storage bags during the raid, which was part of an ongoing operation called Romeo Rhino. 

Queensland police issued four search warrants and made four arrests.

They charged three men and one woman with a range of 11 offences related to drug trafficking, production and possession.

The professional operation was believed to have been run from a pool restoration business, according to the Courier Mail.

A 38-year-old Cooroy man, a 27-year-old Coolum Beach man and a 25 year old Eumundi woman will all face Noosa Magistrates Court on June 1.

The third man, aged 36, charged with possession was referred to a drug diversion program.

Police also seized equipment for producing cannabis including lighting and fans.

Queensland police Detective Sergeant Tim Byrnes confirmed the premises was a pool business.

‘We will allege that was basically a front just to give it the outward appearance that it was something legitimate,’ he said.

‘We will allege the whole premise was being used for illicit purposes.’
