KALAMAZOO, MI — Downtown residents and visitors now have a walkable option to pick up some cannabis with the opening of the Pincanna dispensary on the Kalamazoo Mall.
The 1,825-square-foot storefront officially opened for business on Wednesday, July 27, at 123 E. South St., founding partner Rob Nusbaum told MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Kalamazoo community,” Nusbaum said. “It’s a very walkable and very vibrant community with restaurants all over in the area. We kind of just fit right in to downtown Kalamazoo.”
The business is vertically integrated, he said, meaning it grows, processes and dispenses retail cannabis. That helps set them apart, he said.
“That allows us to control our own destiny,” Nusbaum said. “We can grow strains we feel are the best for the market.”
The shop offers about 70% of its own products, and about 30% of products from other vendors, he said. The company already has other locations, in Kalkaska and East Lansing,
“We can control the pricing and we can withstand lower pricing more than other growers that are not vertically integrated,” he said. That gives the business flexibility.
They will strive to offer the lowest prices in the area on some products, he said, but will also offer higher priced items for connoisseurs. They offer smaller buds, branded “The Smallz” at a lower price point, he said.
The shop offers products in categories including cannabis flower, pre-rolled joints, edibles, extracts, topical rubs and ointments. They emphasize service, and all staff members go through training designed to help a wide variety of customers, from a first time smoker to a longtime user.
“The training is so our staff can help the seasoned cannabis veteran or somebody who is going to use it for their first time and know nothing — All they know is their back hurts and they want something that will help,” he said.
More than 15 employees have been hired to staff Pincanna’s Kalamazoo location. Shoppers can place pre-orders at Pincanna.com or shop inside the store.
Pincanna will be open 7 days a week, serving customers 21 years old and older (and those 18 years old or older with a licensed medical marijuana card). The store’s hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
First-time customers who sign up for Pincanna Rewards will get a swag bag (while supplies last), the company said.
Opening specials include: $69 ounces of The Smallz; a $35 cartridge bundle “out the door” that includes two cartridges and a battery; and $5 gummies.
Some of the propriety Pincanna strains grown at the company’s farm in Pinconning include The Main Event and Deathwalker, the company said. Among products they produce and sell is the Fruit and Fuel product line that features a wide array of products, including pre-packaged flower, distillate, cartridges and pre-rolled joints.
