PLAINFIELD – The city’s first marijuana dispensary downtown is open for business.
Royal M, at 102A East Front St., is committed to providing ethically sourced, high-quality, contaminant-free cannabis products for adult consumption, it says. It is the second marijuana dispensary to open in the city.
“We’re excited to bring Royal M’s unique cannabis experience to Plainfield,” said Ananya Mukerjee, Royal M’s CEO, in a statement. “Our mission is to offer the finest and purest cannabis products to our customers, ensuring quality and safety are never compromised.”
The dispensary features marijuana products, including flower, vapes, edibles, concentrates, topicals, specialty cannabis strains and discounted recreational products.
The business is co-owned by New Jersey residents Ananya Mukerjee, and her husband, Dr. Ken Vaid. Mukerjee was born in India and shortly after moved to New Jersey and was raised in Teaneck. She attended Rutgers University where she studied chemical engineering and mastered the intricacies of chemical and quality control.

The couple’s journey in cannabis began when they witnessed through close relatives and friends the benefits of using cannabis therapy to enhance people’s health when dealing with cancer, seizure disorder, pain management, stress management, recuperating from debilitating surgery, depression or for recreational use.
They had a founding role in New England Cannabis Corporation as primary investors and Dr. Ken Vaid as chief medical officer, and they learned how to navigate the intricacies of the highly regulated cannabis market.
The business hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday, according to the Royal M website.
